Regulations

2017 Shanghai Conservatory of Music International Percussion Festival

& Second IPEA International Percussion Competition

Organization and Purpose

The festival and competition are hosted by Shanghai Conservatory of Music, organized by The International Percussion Center of Shanghai Conservatory of Music, and co-organized by the International Percussion Education Association, Chinese Musicians Association Percussion Institute, Percussive Arts Society (China Branch), and Drum Corps International.

These events aim at promoting the development of percussion education, enhancing communication between international music colleges and percussion educational institutions, and creating a high level communication platform with international perspectives and standards. A series of masterclasses, education forums, concerts and the competition will be held during the activity.

Note (i): Only 20 contestants will be preselected for each group, except in the Amateur Youth Group Drum (40) and Amateur Children (60) Drum kit categories (with 40 and 60 contestants respectively).

Note (ii): According to the regulations of DrumLine Battle China, two or more contestants can form a team. There is no limitation to the participants' age and number. The pairs of teams are required to compete over two rounds on the same site. Each team shall play between (at least) 30 seconds and 2 minutes in each round without accompaniment. Professional Junior Group

♦ Born between Sept. 1, 1999 and Aug. 31, 2005

♦ Born between Sept. 1, 1988 and Aug.31, 2001

♦ Non-professional players

Amateur Junior Group

♦ Born between Sept. 1, 2001 and Aug.31, 2005

♦ Non-professional players

Amateur Children Group

♦ Born between Sept. 1, 2005 and Aug.31, 2009

♦ Non-professional players

Institutional Group

♦ No limitation on age

Professional art college students, young teachers, professional musicians

Social Group

♦ No limitation on age

The contestants need to be IPEA members who are recommended or selected by IPEA collaboration institutions

Application submission deadline is August 31, 2017.

Semi-final

·The top six contestants of the semi-final of each group will progress to the final.

·If a contestant plays over time they will stopped, but it will not affect the score.

·The drum kit players should bring the accompaniment recording for the organizing committee on sign up.

·Please use the Chinese Percussion set piece version as provided by IPEA (follow the link to download: http://pan.baidu.com/s/1jHZWATS).

·The accompaniments in Chinese percussion should be within 2 players. There is no limit to the number of instruments.

·Please use the Ensemble set piece version as provided by IPEA. The application form for the Ensemble category, Regulations and the available Instruments List can be downloaded here: http://pan.baidu.com/s/1cvR8N8

Final round

·If a contestant plays over time they will stopped, but it will not affect the score.

·The accompaniments in Chinese percussion should be within 2 players. There is no limit to the number of instruments.

Professional Adult and Junior Groups

Contestants for the first round will be pre-judged and selected from video recordings.

Download and complete the Video Application Form (Web: http://pan.baidu.com/s/1sloB2t3), and send to the email address of IPEA: contact@ipea.education

Contestants should submit videos specifically recorded for this competition. The video should be recorded within one month prior to the deadline and be without any edits. High resolution is required.

Videos should be uploaded to http://www.youku.com/. Please set a password for the video. Web link and password should be provided on the application form.

Application and video submission deadline are July 31, 2017.

The organizing committee will announce the semi-final admission decisions on the official WeChat account and Sina Micro-blog before August 21, 2017.

Contestants should contact the organizing committee and confirm further competition details before August 31, 2017.

·The prize-winners should pay taxes in accordance to the relevant laws of China.

·The judging panel has the right to decide whether an award is tied or not given.

·The decision of the judging panel is final and cannot be changed.

Players'rights & duties

1. People who fill in and submit the application form agree to and are subject to these regulations.

2. The contestants who don't fill in their personal information in good faith will be disqualified and any awards given will be taken back by the Committee.

3. Players and visitors don't need to pay any extra entry fees (they are, however, responsible for their own travel, accommodation and meal expenses).

4. The Committee assumes proprietorship of playing and recording in the competition and all resulting media.

5. The Committee, at its own discretion, will arrange the following awards and activities for the prize-winners:

·The first prize winner of each category in the Professional Adult Group will be admitted as a member of the IPEA International Percussion Judging Group.

·A performing tour in and outside China.

·Have the opportunity to be recommended as a signed artist of famous instrument brands.

Disclaimer

1、The competition is a non-profit public welfare project, and therefore the collection of any payment is not done by the Organizing Committee.

2、In case of force majeure in which the event cannot be carried out, the organizing committee has the right to postpone or cancel all activities.
