Having gone through a long period of market development in China, bakery industry has been experiencing rapid growth after stepping into the 21st century. According to the National Statistical Bureau, in 2017, the main business incomefor Chinese bakery and confectionery (including products such as cakes/breads,biscuits, candies and chocolates, cold drinks, instant noodles and candied fruits) was 743.178 billion yuan, increasing by 8.29% year-on-year growth.

According to data from China Association of Bakeryand Confectionery Industry, the country’s average annual bread consumption perperson was about 4.4 kg in 2017 (calculated from 1.37 billion domesticresidents) while South Korea’s was over 10 kg, Japan’s over 20 kg and that of the US and Western Europe was above 70 kg per person. Thus, the potential by consumption of the Chinese bakery industry is enormous, taking into account accelerating urbanisation and residents’ diversified eating habits.

Growth in buyer footfalls

The bakery industry in China is a typical bilateral industry that aims to introduce advanced international technologies and help China’s bakery enterprises goabroad. Due to large visitors flow at the exhibition, some exhibitors complained about the inconvenience and difficulties of providing quality services for more buyers within limited time. In addition,some buyers found it hard to have full communications with more exhibitors due to large visitors. In view of this, the organizers decide to implement the differentiated charge scheme of first-day on-site registration at thisexhibition in response to the suggestions of majority exhibitors and buyers.
