Week Summary 1
This is the first week ever in my life for me to live aboard without my parents, which brings me a lot of new experience that I never had before both in studying and living.
Because I arrived a few days earlier than the time class begins, there is some time for me to understand the local culture and living style. Living in homestay also provides the opportunity for me to know their living style like their daily food, and their schedule. Their food is easy and tasty, which I like the most, and they cooked me some flavors that I never tried before, so those kinds of flavors fulfill my curiosity about their life.
After a few days, we met our professor and began our research course. We meet three times a week, so this gives us more time to understand the concept we learned before. Currently, we mainly focus on the Electrospinning Technique, which is a way to make Carbon Nano Tube or Carbon Nano Fiber. We have learned the structure of the machine, the theories behind the machine, and some key points for the machine to work. The professor left us a challenging work, which is to create the new machine based on the knowledge we learned. For me, it is even hard because I have not known a lot of those concepts before, which means I need use the knowledge I learned within two weeks to create something new. It is kind of impossible, but I want to try, and see how will this thing comes out.
Week Summary 2
In the academic side about this week, our group mainly focus on the innovational project about creating a new kind of fiber making machine. The professor gave us many ways to make fibers and many examples to broaden our horizon. In this way, we got a huge number of enlightenments about our project. After that, we had coupe investigations between the numbers and settled our project. We decided to make a 3 in 1 fiber, which means three components in one fiber with a uniformed distribution. In order to do that, we lengthen the baffle in the middle of divisional needle to create three separated Taylor Cones. Then, the thread would be pulled out and be restricted by the electric field or magnetic field. We have a wrote an essay and make a PPT to exhibit to our professor. I felt very proud of myself by giving the idea of magnetic restriction, and I am very looking forward to the professor’s opinion about my idea.
