农学 Marine Pollution Bulletin Special Issue on Marine Litter: experiences and perspectives towards the UN decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development 2021-2030

The Special Issue stems from the activities of the working group on marine litter BAMAR and intends to inter-link the state of the art of marine litter research with the forthcoming decade of Ocean Sciences for Sustainable Development 2021-2030. The three lines Science & Policy; Ocean literacy; Monitoring will be the thread ideally connecting research and ideas from local to global scale. The SI would hence cover a range of topics, from applied studies to education (including citizen science and monitoring campaigns, and their effect) to technical (including methodologies and their test) contributions. We expect the collection of papers within the SI to 1) constitute a state of the art for marine litter research; 2) provide a feed-back for implemented policies, and baselines for policies to be implemented; 3) represent a platform for the development of further research. We are particularly keen in accepting submissions considering the social-ecological perspective of the issue of marine litter, i.e. targeting patterns and drivers related to both the biophysical and social template of the marine system under the pressure of marine litter.

In line with the general aims and scope of Marine Pollution Bulletin, it remains of major interest “the rational use of maritime and marine resources in estuaries, the seas and oceans, as well as with documenting marine pollution and introducing new forms of measurement and analysis. A wide range of topics are discussed as news, comment, reviews and research reports, not only on effluent disposal and pollution control, but also on the management, economic aspects and protection of the marine environment in general.” Contributions can be proposed as different categories of manus:

'Research Papers' form the core of the journal, with a maximum of 10000 words. Guidelines for the preparation of such papers are given under the section "preparation (hyperlink to the section)" below.

'Baselines' document measurements which are expected to have value in the future. Baseline manus are less than 5000 words, contain an abstract and keywords, brief introductory remarks and discussion but do not have sections or subsections.

'Short communication' are short research papers of less than 4000 words, and a maximum of 3 Figures or Tables.

'Viewpoints' are a less formal forum for scientists to comment freely on matters of relevant national and international importance.

Other sections of the bulletin include 'News', 'New Products', 'Conference Reports', 'Conference Diary', 'Correspondence' and 'Book Reviews'.

The impacts of human activities on our natural environment have never been greater, with unprecedented loss of our forests, wetlands and glaciers. Accurate information about the status of these ecosystems and any changes are essential to support evidence-based decision making related to the many international conventions and initiatives that aim to address these issues, including, amongst others, the UN Paris Agreement and its REDD+ framework, the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

This special issue will highlight activities undertaken within the ALOS Kyoto and Carbon (K&C) Initiative, an international collaborative science activity led by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). The K&C Initiative was set up in 2001 to support information requirements relating to “the 4 C” thematic drivers: International Environmental Conventions, Carbon Cycle Science, Environmental Conservation, and Climate Change.

Contributions can focus on applications relating to the characterisation, mapping or monitoring of forest and wetlands ecosystems (tropical, temperate, boreal) at scales that can vary from local to global. Applications utilising time-series observations to illustrate anthropogenic changes or natural temporal dynamics are encouraged, as well as the synergetic utilisation of several satellite and other data sources.返回搜狐,查看更多
