medium和middle不仅长得像

还都表示“中间”

这可怎么区分？

①medium

If something is ofmediumsize, it is neither large nor small, but approximately halfway between the two.

也就是说medium指“中等的，中号的”。

A medium doseproduces severe nausea within hours.

中等剂量会在几小时内引起严重的恶心。

像路上遇到的中型汽车就是：a medium-size car

medium还指程度上“中等”，比如牛排要五分熟的“五分熟”就用medium表示。

②middle

middle则多表示位置上、时间上的“中间”，比如半夜→the middle of the night

I woke up in the middle of the night and could hear a tapping on the window.

我半夜醒来，听到轻敲窗户的声音。

再比如人一生中的“中期”→中年

Many classical violinists and pianists become conductors in their middle years.

许多古典小提琴手和钢琴演奏者在中年时变成指挥家。

middle还可以指：

an acceptable course of action that avoids two extreme positions

中庸之道；折中办法

medium和middle怎么区分？

medium指“中等的，中号的”

in the middle between two sizes, amounts, lengths,temperatures

middle多指位置上“中间的；中央的；居中的；正中的”

in a positionin the middle of an object, group of objects, people, etc. between the beginning and the end of sth

所以呀，这medium和middle虽然长得像，意思也像，但实际用法可有大大的不同～
